Where to go and what to see

Hiking – the Ancora Artist Residence is located closely to the Serra de Arga, an ancient mountain and soil with granite stones, cascades, water springs and a great number of mapped walking trails for well trained hikers, amateurs and all the others. In fact you can walk up the hills from the house, no need for a car or a bike.

Horseback riding – you can ride horses in the Serra de Arga. Ask us to arrange it.

Walking– it is a great place for a break when you are walking to Santiago de Compostela. Comfortable beds, wife, tv/film/music and a luxurious and healthy breakfast will prepare you for the next leg to your final goal in Spain. You can also take part of the organized one days walks of a part of the Caminho.

Biking – the ecopiste allows you to bike to the most Northern part of the Minho (Monçao). We have five bikes at your disposal.

Swimming, surfing – the house is at a five minutes drive from several beaches. If you have children and want to swim in a quiet ocean you drive up to Moledo, if you want to do some (kite) surfing you should go to the neighbouring Afife. You can take classes or rent equipment at the Surf Tree.

Canoeing– ask us to organize a canoeing trip (individual or in group) on the Lima, the Douro or anywhere you like.

Dolce far niente – you can visit many local markets (Caminha, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Ponte de Lima), or you just sit on one of the many terraces: eating fish, zipping a vinho verde, nibbling at petiscos and looking at the people passing by, listening to the noise of rural villages that take you back in time. You take the ferryboat from Camiha to A Guarda (Spain) or go to Viana do Castelo for shopping, visiting the Pousada, and exploring this beautiful old town. Take the train from the Ancora railway station to Porto (90 minutes) all along the ocean.
